ONTO, UNTO, ON TO AND INTO

 

Onto

  • Used as a preposition of place. Example  {On top of}

  • Used to denote destination. Example {to}

  • Moving, direction, movement

     

  1. The fireman jumped onto the roof to stop the blaze.

  2. The ball fell onto the ground after it smashed the window.

  3. Her senses told her that she was onto something.

     

     

    Unto

  • Used for psychological intangibles

     

  1. She was an island unto herself.

  2. The criminal surrendered unto the police.

  3. The moral of the story was, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

     

    On To

     

  • On used as an adverb of continuation followed by the preposition to for distance or recipient.

  1. The virus moved on to a new host

  2. She went on to say that we were rude.

  3. The students are catching on to the lesson very well.

     

    Into

  • Movement or direction towards the inside.

  • Being transformed into something

     

  1. The dog ran into the car.

  2. What are you turning into?

  3. They are into culinary arts and music.
